Strengthening Child Protection Mechanisms
Child Protection is the core of PATH’s work with children, adolescents and young people. To achieve this goal we have over the years worked in collaboration with institutions, government agencies/departments and corporates. Our programmeaims at orienting children about child rights, and their duties. It focuses on creating a next generation of responsible citizens through the Child Clubs, Child Cabinets &BalPanchayats.
Child Clubs & Child Cabinets are children’s groups whose purpose is to empower children, educate them about their rights & responsibilities, build their capacity to be leaders and encourage them to be vibrant and active members of the community and in school. These forums present an opportunity for children to raise, discuss and address issues that affect them. The children are trained on the basis of the Modules that PATH has developed to encourage them to explore their natural potentials; promote participation in the learning process; provide a platform to develop creativity & innovative skills.
When the children grow older and pass the age of 18 years they join the Youth Groups, which enable adolescents and youth to develop important personal and interpersonal skills. It allows them to think critically and solve and solve problems. It instills a sense of group responsibility and also helps them to gain self-confidence and self esteem.
In 2013, PATH was elected at a National Conference of NGOs to be the nodal organization in West Bengal for an International Campaign “Destination Unknown- Children On The Move” partnering with over 35 NGOs in West Bengal directly and more than 118 NGOs indirectly. PATH led the campaign in West Bengal from 2013 to 2017.
